Dr. Rai currently treats my mom for chronic ascites associated with gastric cancer. When initially diagnosed, she was uncomfortable, weak, and we were all overwhelmed. The normal course of treatment involves paracentesis to relieve the discomfort, however this procedure is invasive, has to occur in the hospital, and can be time consuming. Dr. Rai provided us with an innovative solution by inserting a pleurex peritoneal catheter, thereby allowing my mom much more flexibility and ease in fluid management. What's more, it has given her the freedom of managing this part of her treatment largely from home. More than his medical acumen, Dr. Rai has provided much needed comfort and kindness during a particularity difficult time for our family. We were all overwhelmed with the sudden diagnosis and navigating a hospital bureaucracy, but Dr. Rai is always there to answer any questions we have and offer creative solutions to ensure my mom's overall health (physical and mental) are the priority. It's never easy to see a loved one suffer, so having a doctor who goes above and beyond provides so much strength and comfort. He has even been able to make us smile a few times this stressful time! It is clear, despite his heavy caseload, that Dr. Rai genuinely cares about each of his patients. The time and attention he gives each individual shows his dedication and passion for his profession.
